Welcome to the "new" Country Chatter

Calico Kitten Designs is so happy to welcome Country Chatter Newsletter to our website.
The newsletter is just my way of sharing my part of the world with everyone, and helping people with their businesses. I am hoping to make the world just a little bit better for a couple minutes, to bring a laugh or a smile to your face and just a way of saying thanks.

Fall has come to the valley, in the 90's during the day and cools down at night and beautiful in the mornings in the 60's or 70's.  Time to go for my walks at night and time to decorate the house
for Fall and Halloween.  Pumpkins are out, football on Sundays and did I mention that Da Bears are
4 and 0.  Tigger loves football, he tries to yell louder than the TV and the cats and kittens just hide
when Da Bears are on TV.

It is so nice not to be working on the weekends, Claudia and I have been shopping and shopping,
going to Home Shows, and I have been re-modeling the house.  I learned how to use my
electric saw this weekend and I still have all my fingers, so look out.  I painted the bathroom
this past weekend and put up bead board on one wall and it looks so nice and the kitchen is
next this weekend after watching Da Bears win again.  And then the fun starts this month with
all the activities that are going on.

Letting Loose
by Maranda Jones

Loosen your scarf and sweater
Loosen your lips with sidelines stores
Loosen the flags and footballs
Let homecoming celebrate in glory!

Loosen the pumpkins from patches
Loosen the veggies from vines
Loosen the rains on gardens
Let harvest arrive on time!

Loosen the clinging crimson
Loosen the warmth hanging onto the air
Loosen the grip on golden leaves
Let autumn parade through here!

more easy for you.  The kittens want to make it the place that you look for recipes (check out all the wonderful new recipes that have been added), patterns for crafts, a newsletter to bring you a laugh or too, links to your favorite websites, and if you would like to look at some of my crafts and order, thank you.

We have a Quilting Club for quilters started, there are 4 of us, so far and it is called "Calico Kitten Quilting Club".  So if you would like to join us, we would love to have you.  Please email the kittens at admin@calicokittendesigns.com
Each month, you will send to one person on the list, four 5 inch squares of fabric of one theme.   We will do this for 3 months with one theme and then choose another theme for the next 3 months.  At the end of the three months, please design something with your fabric and send me a photo and I will put it in the newsletter with your name and website.  If you are interested in doing this, please email the staff at Admin@calicokittendesigns.com and please put quilts in the message line.

Bear is in charge of link exchanges and was wondering if anyone would like to exchange links with Calico Kitten Designs.
You can get in touch with him at admin@calicokittendesigns.com and he will be more than happy to sent you ours.

Pumpkin Squares

Crust
In a large bowl, combine mix with wooden spoon:
1 package yellow cake mix (save 1 cup for topping)
1/2 cup melted margarine or butter
1 egg
Spread into 9x13 cake pan with only the bottom greased.  Use a moistened wooden
spoon to spread.

Filling

In a large bowl, beat together:
3 cups (1 lb. 14 oz.) pumpkin pie mix (not plain pumpkin)
2/3 cup milk
2 eggs
Pour over Crust.

Topping
In medium-sized bowl, combine:
1 cup reserved cake mix
1/4 cup softened margarine or butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Mix with pastry blender.  Sprinkle over filling.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes until knife inserted into the center comes out
clean.  Refrigerate to thicken.  Serve chilled or at room temperature with a dollop of
real whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg.  Makes 15-18 squares.

Hearty Nut Seed, Soy Bean and Oat Bread

Ingredients

6-7 Cups unbleached white flour
1 cup whole rolled oats
1 cup sunflower seeds (roasted or raw)
1 cup pumpkin seeds (raw)
1 cup pecans, whole or half
1 cup cashews or pistachios
1 cup soy beans, roasted
1/2 cups flax seeds, ground
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 envelopes rapid rise yeast
2 tsp. sea salt
2 1/2 cups water
4 T. butter

In electric mixing bowl with dough hook combine 2 cups flour with oats, all seeds and nuts, sugar, salt and yeast.  Heat water and butter in pan until butter is melted and temperature is 120-130
degrees F.  Add to mixture and mix for ten minutes, adding enough of the remaining flour
1/4 cup at a time until dough pulls away from sides of bowl.  Remove dough hook, cover bowl
and let rest for ten minutes.

Remove dough from bowl, cut in half and form two loaves of bread and place in oiled 9"x5" pans.
Cover and let rise in draft-free warm area until double in size. (30-45 minutes)  Brush tops
with softened butter and spray mist of water over tops.  Bake in pre-heated 375 degrees
oven on middle rack.  Remove from pans and cool on wire rack.
